Tragedy at Paragon: A Young Woman’s Life Cut Short in Jackson Township Shooting

On a quiet Saturday morning, September 6, 2025, the serene atmosphere of the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road in Jackson Township, New Jersey, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 11:00 a.m., a frantic 911 call alerted authorities to shots fired and an unresponsive woman lying in the roadway. Responding officers from the Jackson Township Police Department arrived to a grim scene: 28-year-old Toraya Reid, a vibrant young woman from the community, lay lifeless near the complex’s exit, her body marked by multiple gunshot wounds.

As police secured the area, additional officers spotted a man fleeing the scene along North New Prospect Road. Identified as 29-year-old Shaquille Green, also a resident of Jackson Township, he was apprehended without resistance and taken to police headquarters. Green, who authorities revealed had been in a dating relationship with Reid, now faces grave charges that have left the community reeling.

Following a meticulous investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, Green was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. The weight of these accusations underscores the tragic loss of Reid, whose life was cut short in an act of violence that has left her loved ones and neighbors searching for answers.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer praised the collaborative efforts of the investigative teams, whose swift action ensured Green’s apprehension. “The diligence and coordination of our law enforcement agencies have brought us to this point,” Billhimer stated, emphasizing the commitment to justice for Reid. Green is currently detained at the Ocean County Jail, awaiting a detention hearing that will determine the next steps in this heartbreaking case.

As the legal process unfolds, authorities have reminded the public that the charges against Green are allegations, and he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. For now, the Jackson Township community mourns the loss of Toraya Reid, a young woman whose life ended too soon, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her.
