Kansas City police have identified the teenager who was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon in a Northland neighborhood.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting near NE 75th Court and North Chas Drive, where they located 17-year-old Charles Sanders lying in the front yard of a residence.

Emergency responders transported Sanders to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to investigators, preliminary findings suggest that Sanders had an encounter with โ€œone or more suspectsโ€ prior to the shooting.

During the interaction, shots were fired, resulting in Sanders being struck.

Security camera footage from the neighborhood captured portions of the incident.

The video reportedly shows a man wearing a white hoodie standing over Sanders immediately after the shooting.

Neighbors described rushing to aid Sanders following the gunfire.

One resident performed CPR in an effort to save him until emergency personnel arrived on scene.

Additional witnesses reported seeing two teenagers fleeing the area immediately after the shooting.

As of Thursday, no arrests have been made.

Authorities are continuing to investigate and are urging anyone with information to come forward
