Authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred near Washington School, a private educational institution located at 1605 E. Reed Road in Greenville.

The incident prompted a temporary lockdown of the campus out of an abundance of caution.

According to initial reports, a bullet struck and shattered a classroom window during the incident.

The gunfire is believed to have originated near a group of nearby abandoned apartment buildings adjacent to the school property.
